Take time for quiet activities that include both your toddler and the baby
Once the baby arrives, help smooth out the adjustment by spending time in quiet activities for everyone. Reading is ideal, especially if your toddler enjoys books. If you breastfeed, let your toddler sit next to you and read or take care of her own weighted newborn doll made just for toddlers.
Above all, remind your toddler that he or she is just as important to you as the baby. Make him feel special with a “big brother” or “big sister” gift when baby arrives. And include your toddler in baby care in all the small ways you can. Don’t forget to take some time for yourself so you don’t get burned out!
