Using Medication to Treat Head Lice
To kill lice, consider using an over-the-counter product This involves applying medication to your child’s hair. Begin with clean hair, but don’t use a shampoo-and-conditioner combination product before applying a lice treatment. After using the lice medicine or an over-the-counter lice treatment shampoo, avoid washing your child’s hair for one to two days. Some children experience side effects from this type of treatment. This may include a burning sensation, eye redness or even dandruff. My favorite lice treatment shampoo is Licefree! and Licefree! shampoo and kits are available from Amazon.
If you prefer natural head lice remedies, consider tea tree oil. You can also take advantage of the conditioner method, which involves dousing your child’s hair in conditioner, and then, combing through it to remove the lice. The conditioner stops the lice from moving, allowing you to comb them out.
