Making Sure the House is Free of Lice

Head lice are unable to survive away from a person’s head. Once they are separated from their host, the bugs are unable to live for longer than 24 hours. To get rid of them and keep your home lice-free, turn your attention to the things that your child may have touched during the last day. Soak combs, hairbrushes and hairclips or hairbands in hot water for two hours or more. Then, put them in a plastic bag and store them in the freezer for a few hours.

Wash your child’s bedsheets, towels and blankets in hot water. Also, toss them in the dryer on its hottest setting for a minimum of 30 minutes. If your child has a special stuffed animal friend, then put it in the dryer for about 30 minutes too. Vacuum your child’s carpet, sofa, chairs or car seat. This is one of the easiest all natural lice remedies!
