- Do you put your baby or toddler down for a nap after they’re already asleep? Doing so is actually one of the napping no-no’s to watch out for! No matter how much you love rocking your baby to sleep, he needs to learn how to fall asleep on his own. If you always wait until he’s asleep to put him down, he won’t learn this very important skill. That means nap time and bedtime will just become more and more of a chore the older he gets.
- That leads right into the next napping no-no–rushing into baby’s room the minute he cries. Instead, try to wait 10 or 15 minutes. If nap time shouldn’t be over yet, it’s likely your baby is merely moving between sleep cycles, and whimpering or momentary crying is common during these transitions. Chances are, he’ll go right back to sleep if you don’t rush in first.
