Older Than 6 Months? Give Them a Security Object
If your child is older than 6 months of age, it might be appropriate to give them a stuffed animal or a baby blanket to sleep with. Don’t give your baby a blanket if they are younger than 6 months old, because this could increase the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Make sure the item smells like you before you send your baby to bed with it. Babies have an extremely strong sense of smell, and if they awake during the night, the smell of you on the blanket will help to calm them down.
